Johanna Gillman
Artist's Statement
"Music, dance, rhythm, theme and variation, create
patterns of movement through twisting planes. Some areas
are ripped open, others overlaid, still others explode beyond
the perimeter. Order evolves out of chaos, creating an invention
of spatial ambiguity and biomorphic form. Color is the catalyst
on a spiritual journey in search of magical harmony, tonal
balance and contrapuntal mystery. From representational
to abstraction. From the rectangle to the extension series
to the shaped canvas, the work has gone from containment
to unlimited freedom."
Johanna Gillman lives in New York City. She has been painting
