Joel
Conison
Artist Statement
My interest in photography began suddenly,
and almost by accident. In an elective class in college, I
had an epiphany when I saw Edward Weston’s “Pepper
#30’. I knew immediately that I wanted to make still
life photographs.
I became a photographers assistant and eventually
had my own commercial studio. But I never stopped making photographs
for myself. From the beginning I was always interested in
the ‘less is more’ philosophy. I have continued
on that path for twenty years by trying to isolate what is
the most important part of the image and eliminating all that
isn’t necessary.
