Carl Ellis

Artist Statement

My Photography is about turning ordinary objects into extraordinary images.

My basic rules are: Observe my surroundings, trust my eye, and seek the perfect composition. Whether a lampshade, a shower curtain, or the way light reflects off a pond, if it catches my eye, I play with it, compose it and shoot it. I challenge viewers to question what they see, and hope they come to realize that possibilities exist everywhere.

I prefer working with strong color, motion, blur and natural or existing light whenever possible.
